Freeze that Fat (CoolSculpting)!

One of the biggest breakthroughs in non-surgical body contouring is CoolSculpting which makes it possible to slim down and get rid of fat without needing surgery.

CoolSculpting is a clinically proven non-invasive body sculpting method that uses freezing temperatures to reach areas of the body which are hesitant to shift fat, resulting in a more sculpted body, and proportionate physique and smoother contours.

Harvard University medical students created the technology behind CoolSculpting. After students observed babies that were given ice blocks to suck on over a prolonged period they lost fat in their cheeks. This observation led to the research into the role freezing plays in the destruction of fat cells.

Harvard Medical School students and teachers spent four years researching this phenomenon. They discovered that, under mindfully controlled conditions, subcutaneous fat cells are more vulnerable to the effects of cold than the surrounding tissue.

They also showed that once a certain level of cooling has been achieved, a natural outpouring of fat deconstruction begins – also known as cryolipolysis – with the body going on to remove the dead cells over two to four months.

Selective cryolipolysis led to the development of CoolSculpting, which freezes and destroys targeted excess fat deposits on the body while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.

Freeze that Fat

CoolSculpting was introduced to Australia in 2010 with TGA approval, medical professionals and patients continue to be impressed with the results achieved by the state-of-the-art technology.

The treatment is well-tolerated, non-invasive, and performed in-clinic in just under an hour. During the procedure, a gel drape is positioned onto the desired area to protect the skin before the applicator head is put into the fatty pocket. A suction cap is then placed in the target region which then slowly gets cold. This is left on for an about an hour, during this time the patient can lie back and relax.

Patients typically report the skin and underlying fat layers to feel stiff and cold, which depletes after around 30 minutes as the treated area warms to its normal temperature. Because fat cells are more vulnerable to lower temperatures than skin cells, the skin is left unharmed while the under layers of fat are affected.

Normally, two or three treatments are necessary and administered six to eight weeks apart.  Like any aesthetic treatment, for excellent results, it’s important that your practitioner is experienced in performing the CoolSculpting treatment.

If you live in or near the Sydney area, Dr Saras & Co cosmetic clinics are the best choice to try CoolSculpting. With nearly no downtime, CoolSculpting offers patients a non-surgical option of sculpting and refining their contours.
